Best locations for an intimate Tuscan wedding

With its vast rolling hills, poetically beautiful medieval architecture, and world-renowned cuisine, it’s no wonder that Tuscany has long been the number one destination for couples in search of an Italian wedding destination.

But with so many astoundingly beautiful wedding locations in Tuscany to choose from, it can be difficult to decide where to have your special day. To help you create your shortlist, we’ve enlisted the help of the Italians in the DBMH crew to pick out the best locations for an intimate Tuscan wedding. Whether you’re after a castle high up in the hills, or a modern spot in the city centre – we’ve got you covered.

Castello di Ristonchi

Situated high up in the Tuscan hills lies the 1000+ year old Ristonchi Castle. Over the years this magnificent building has been home to monks, stonemasons, and even weathered its fair share of wars.

Nowadays, however, the castle is home to Stefanie & Rasmus, who met when Stefanie rented a room in Rasmus’ Copenhagen apartment on Airbnb (we know, we didn’t think these Airbnb love stories existed either!). Set in the heart of an ancient forest, and surrounded by olive groves, fruit trees and total tranquility, they have transformed the ageing castle into the perfect location to host your big day.

You can rent the entire castle and have up to 90 guests stay with you at the venue, or if you have a smaller budget, you can opt for a flexible package to suit your needs.

Fattoria La Nutrice

Set just a stones throw away from the centre of Florence lies a beautiful old farmhouse, affectionately known as The Nurse.

The farmhouse is situated in an an estate of over 70 hectares of woods and olive groves, and was once owned by the Medici family – the ancient patrons of Florence. Though once in decline, it was recently restored by a family of architects, who have transformed the historic building into a super stylish venue that seamlessly mixes medieval architecture with a modern twist.

You can host up to 60 people on the day, and sleep 21 guests with you at the farmhouse, and there are tons of stunning outdoor spots (including a private lake) for your ceremony. There’s even a private chapel on site if you want to have a more traditional wedding day (though it’s not consecrated, so it would only be a symbolic ceremony).

This venue offers a truly typical Tuscan spot to have your wedding day, and – best of all – owner Pablo is on hand to support all your wedding planning if needed.

La Bandita

Midway beteen Florence and Rome lies the breathtaking Val d’Orcia. Named a UNESCO heritage site in 2004, the val d’Orcia is the quintessential Tuscan countryside location.

Think rolling golden pastures, endless cypress tress and walled towns, and you have an idea of this idyllic spot. Right in the middle of this natural beauty you’ll find the private country retreat known as La Bandita.

This 4 acre property has some of the finest sweeping views in the whole of Tuscany, making it the perfect location to host your wedding dat. Owned by an ex-music executive who quit New York with his wife in search of La Bella Vita, this beautiful, comfortable retreat, with a modern look and a relaxed atmosphere, is the idea spot to relax, cook big dinners, enjoy Tuscany – and somewhere in the middle of that – get hitched.

If you’re after a truly intimate and typically Tuscan event, then this is the location for you.

Villa Ravano

Head to the far West of the Tuscan region and you’ll find the historic town of Pisa. With it’s iconic leaning tower, metropolitan city centre and close proximity to unspoilt nature, this is a wonderful spot to host your Tuscan wedding. Few places in the Pisa area offer a more breathtaking spot to host your day than Villa Ravano, owned and run by local Pisan, Fabio.

With its typically Tuscan yellow exterior and vast sweeping grounds, this venue promises endless opportunities for you to design your day however you prefer. It can host up to 40 guests overnight and many more during the day, and there is ample indoor and outdoor space for the ceremony.

Ideally situated just 5km away from central Pisa whilst still being surrounded by nature, this location offers the best of both worlds for couples seeking a relaxed destination with the best of Tuscan culture right on your doorstep.

Antica Torre di Via Tornabuoni

If you want to get married in the heart of Florence, then Antica Torre di Via Tornabuoni is the perfect choice. The tower is neither hotel nor boutique residence, but more a historic home that just happens to be situated a few steps away from the famous Santa Trinita Bridge.

A wedding at the tower will give you exclusive access to one of the finest views in all of Florence. From here, the dome of Santa Maria del Fiore, the hills of Fiesole and Settignano, the Arno River, the Santa Trinita Bridge and Via Maggio will be the backdrop for your wedding ceremony.

You’ll stand high above the Florentine crowds as you say your vows, and afterwards can enjoy a celebratory meal in the tower restaurant. Or, for something more low key, head out into the historic cobbled streets to Perche No! for the best gelato in all of Florence.

My son was married at Castello di Ristonchi in May 2019. It couldn’t have been a more lovely wedding. Stefanie and Rasmus and their staff were excellent, warm hosts, and their castle is charming in all respects. We had a great long weekend full of fun activities, great food, and the most gorgeous setting.
